Fees & reimbursement
Allow up to 60 minutes for a treatment. The fee is 120 to 150 euros, depending on effort – you pay for the treatment, not for the time. You receive an invoice to submit to your insurer – depending on your insurance either an invoice for the osteopathic treatment or one based on the German fee schedule for Heilpraktiker (GebüH) listing the services provided. This applies to first and follow-up treatments alike.
Private and supplementary insurance
Private health insurers and supplementary policies for complementary medicine usually reimburse osteopathic treatment in full or in part; the extent and maximum rates depend on your plan.
Statutory health insurance (GKV)
You are welcome with statutory insurance too. Many German statutory insurers subsidise osteopathy as an extra benefit – often 40 to 80 euros per treatment for three to six treatments a year, some with an annual budget (example AOK: up to 500 euros, at most 80 euros per treatment). You pay the invoice for the osteopathic treatment first and submit it; most insurers require a doctor’s recommendation beforehand. Your insurer can tell you fastest whether and how much they pay – the figures here are examples as of September 2026.
The insurers’ requirements for the practitioner are met: member of the German Association of Osteopaths (VOD), five-year osteopathy programme following the American curriculum with more than 1,350 hours of tuition, state-certified physiotherapist, licensed Heilpraktiker.
